Types of Sudoku

Most people are familiar with the classic Sudoku puzzle, but there are many variations that add new challenges and twists. Each type follows the same basic idea while introducing unique rules.

Classic Sudoku

Classic Sudoku uses a 9×9 grid divided into nine 3×3 boxes. The goal is to place numbers from 1 to 9 so that each number appears only once in every row, column, and box.

This is the most common and widely played version of Sudoku.

Mini Sudoku

Mini Sudoku uses a smaller grid, often 4×4 or 6×6. These puzzles are great for beginners or for quick practice sessions.

Diagonal Sudoku

In Diagonal Sudoku, the two main diagonals must also contain the numbers 1 to 9 without repetition, in addition to the standard rules.

Killer Sudoku

Killer Sudoku combines elements of Sudoku and arithmetic. Instead of starting numbers, players are given groups of cells with a target sum. The numbers inside each group must add up to that sum.

Hyper Sudoku

Hyper Sudoku adds extra highlighted regions within the grid. These regions also must contain numbers 1 to 9 without repetition, increasing the difficulty.

Which Type Should You Try?

If you are new to Sudoku, classic Sudoku is the best place to start. Once you feel comfortable, exploring other types can keep the game fresh and interesting.
